Patrie Davis
was drug, kicking and screaming, into the world
on May 8th, 1987 in Nashville,
Tennessee. Unfortunately, the country music
capital of the world was not blessed with her
wrinkly presence for very long and at the age of
two, Patrie and her family moved to Birmingham,
Alabama for ten years before moving to
Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Since birth, Patrie has found herself surrounded
by literature. Her mother and grandmother are
both avid readers and spent long hours reading
to Patrie. It is, however, to her father, that
Patrie owns a lot of her reading ability. When
he would come home late from work, Patrie would
on occasion demand to be read to. Her tired
father would occasionally skip words and Patrie
was forced to read over his shoulder in order to
correct him.
Patrie also
began writing when she was very young, making up
stories about a horse name Ghost when she was
five years old since she very quickly decided
that owning a horse in a suburb of Birmingham
was probably not very likely. Patrie continued
to use writing as an escape and to delve into
the depths of her own imagination. Science
Fiction offered that outlet without the
restrictions of reality. At twelve, while in 8th
grade, Patrie began writing the story that would
become Mystic Desert ... the beginning. She
followed that up with two, as of yet
unpublished, books, rounding out the trilogy and
finishing at sixteen.
Patrie has
also published a number of articles for the
Jeffersonville Evening News and has written a
variety of short stories. She does not limit her
writing to science fiction or fantasy but
explores a number of other genres as well. When
she is not writing, it is very likely that
you'll find Patrie outside, as she finds that
much more acceptable than being inside. She
enjoys backpacking, hiking, rock climbing,
mountain biking, cooking, traveling, and riding
her motorcycle. She plays hockey and soccer
whenever she gets the chance and is the proud
owner of a black lab mix, golden retriever mix,
pug mix, and a very needy black cat who keep her
sufficiently busy whenever she has a moment of
quiet. Patrie is a student at Indiana University
and hopes to graduate in a little over two years
with degrees in Criminal Justice and English.
When she isn't studying or outside, Patrie can
be found curled up with a cup of tea and a good
book.
